We hope to inspire, educate, and encourage as we cook our way through Mark Bittman’s book together. From vegans to pescetarians to those who love indulging in the semi-occasional (or frequent) burger and fries, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun!
The recipes in The Food Matters Cookbook are so adaptable and open for interpretation – it’s almost as if they were designed for a project like this. It is simply amazing to see one dish through the eyes of so many unique and creative individuals each week. Vegetables are having a moment, indeed – and shining brighter and brighter every day.
Here’s how it works: Each week, one member of the group chooses a recipe from the book. This member is the “host” for the week. The group cooks the selected dish, and everyone posts their take on the recipe on their own blogs on Monday. The host includes the full recipe in his or her post, and the rest of the group links to the host’s blog for the recipe. Then, everyone heads over here and adds their own links as comments, so we can see how everyone fared!
Active Members: To be a host, you must be an active member with a 50% participation rate. We always enjoy seeing new faces so feel free to try your hand at a few recipes and if you’d like to commit to being a host, contact us and we can add you to the waiting list.
You are welcome to join in at any time, on any post, even if you are not an Active Member; you can simply comment with your link, and we’ll also add you to our Pinterest board for that particular recipe.
If you can’t get your hands on the cookbook, let us know and we will email you the recipe 1-2 weeks in advance. We want to make sure this project is accessible to everyone!
If you don’t have a blog but want to participate, that rocks, too! Cook along with us and add your own thoughts and comments. We hope to hear from you and see photos of your own interpretations on our Facebook page, too!
I’m going to purchase the cookbook if its found at Walmart/Target today, if not I’ll purchase online at Amazon.
Hi,
I’m definitely interested in participating. Please send me the first two recipes as I’ll be ordering online. Thank you!
Hi Mireya! We’ve replied to your email. Glad to have you on board!
Hi there, I have spent the past few hours looking at recipes for inspiration and I stumbled across this. I am not a blogger, but am interested in this. How do I ‘follow you’ on Facebook? How can I participate…my understanding is that I would simply try a new dish each week as per a member recommendation of this book, and I can comment on it. Sounds like a great plan, and I would love to incorporate more grains and veg., particularly as I am married to a Serbian man who loves his meat, and also I have decided this is the year to make some healthier changes to better look after myself. Thanks for considering me!

This is a wonderful project! Mark Bittman is certainly my food guru and is probably to blame for why I have gotten so obsessed with cooking (him and his Minimalist videos). I look forward to following the project week by week.
Bittman is the most fun to cook from since he gives room for the individual to make the recipe fit. This is a wonderful idea.
I would love to participate as a non-host member. Thanks!

I just found your site…what a fantastic project and idea! I think Mark Bittman is brilliant and I’m also passionate about eating real, good, whole foods. We try to promote this on our new e-commerce site (Delicious Karma) as much as possible. I am starting our blog this week, where we’ll post all sorts of content that helps support and educate folks about eating “real, good” foods and being healthy. I would love to participate and host one week…and make more folks aware of what you’re doing. I’ll also occasionally post on our Facebook and Tweet!
Hello! I would like to participate in this. I found your group by doing a search for Super Lemony Kidney Beans (from the book, which I have) I have them cooking in the oven now and they smell wonderful! I do not have a blog, but I do participate daily in a couple of food/cooking groups on Facebook.
